News Synopsis

After Facebook and YouTube, TikTok has also restricted access to some state-controlled media accounts in the European Union including Russia Today and Sputnik. A spokesman for TikTok said on Monday that the company is in contact with the EU and restricts access to facilities related to the Russian government.

Meta and YouTube have also announced that the platforms would restrict access to the state-owned media accounts of Russia. The vice prime minister of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov has also asked the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook to block the use of Apple products and services in Russia. Several social media platforms and companies have been continuously limiting their services after Russia invaded Ukraine.

A spokesperson for European Commission, Eric Marner has said that the bloc was working on how to implement its ban on the broadcasters after the war in Ukraine. The Russian government opposes social media companies that limit these services. The move by two social media companies is the latest step taken by the technology company to monitor the usage of their work since Russia began to invade Ukraine.
