News Synopsis

TikTok has been conducting tests that will allow users to play games on its video-sharing app in Vietnam, a part of plans for the main push into gaming, people familiar with the matter said.

Offering games on its platform not only increases advertising revenue but also increases the number of time users spend on their apps. It is one of the most popular apps in the world with over 1 billion monthly active users.

Vietnam, where 70% of citizens under the age of 35 are tech-savvy, is an attractive market for social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook of Meta Platforms, YouTube, and Alphabet's Google.

Owned by China’s ByteDance, TikTok is also planning to introduce gaming more widely in Southeast Asia, the people said. It could be made available as early as the third quarter

A TikTok representative said the company is testing the app to introduce HTML5 games, a popular form of mini-games, through connections with third-party game developers and studios such as Zynga

“We are always looking at different ways to enrich our platform and regularly test new features and integrations that bring value to our community,” the representatives said.
