The Government will take action against Defaulting EV firms in E-Scooter Fire Accidents

News Synopsis

Amidst the rising fire incidents surrounding electric two-wheelers, Nitin Gadkari, Union minister, on Thursday announced that the government will issue necessary orders on defaulting companies after receiving the report of an expert panel that has been constituted to look into these fire incidents. The Union Minister told that several accidents involving electric two-wheelers have come to light in the past two months, in a series of tweets. Mr. Gadkari said, "We have constituted an expert committee to enquire into these incidents and make recommendations on remedial steps. Based on the reports, we will issue necessary orders on the defaulting companies."

The Road Transport and Highways Minister further commented, "We will soon issue quality-centric guidelines for Electric Vehicles.” Mr.Nitin Gadkari further informed that if any EV company is found negligent in its processes, a heavy penalty will be imposed, and also they will be ordered to recall all defective vehicles. Gadkari tweeted, "Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi ji, our government is committed to ensure safety of each and every commuter.” Last month, the Government of India ordered an investigation after an e-scooter launched by ride-hailing operator Ola's electric mobility arm caught fire in Pune.
