News Synopsis

Tesla is set to inaugurate its first full-service centre in India at Orchid Business Park, Gurugram, on November 27. The facility will combine sales, service, and logistics under one roof, marking a major milestone in Tesla’s India expansion strategy.

Tesla’s First Full-Service Centre in India

Tesla will open its first fully integrated service and sales facility at Orchid Business Park in Gurugram on November 27. The inauguration will be conducted by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Unlike Tesla’s previous outlets in Mumbai and Delhi, which primarily serve as display and product-familiarisation centres, the Gurugram centre offers a complete “experience centre” setup.

Sharad Agarwal, Head of Tesla India, highlighted that the new facility combines sales, service, and logistics to provide a comprehensive customer experience, including consultations, bookings, and test drives.

Expansion of Tesla’s Retail Network

The Gurugram centre signifies Tesla’s move toward establishing a structured retail and service network across India. Tesla is leveraging a direct-to-consumer sales model in India to quickly adapt to customer needs and provide enhanced support. The expansion supports the company’s long-term strategy as India becomes Tesla’s 50th global market.

Tesla’s Supercharger Network in India

Tesla currently has 7,500+ supercharging stations and 75,000+ superchargers worldwide, capable of adding up to 275 km of range in 15 minutes. In India, the company plans new superchargers at One Horizon in Gurugram, South Mumbai, and Navi Mumbai. Existing superchargers are operational at BKC Mumbai, Worldmark 3 Delhi, and the new Gurugram centre.

These charging facilities are part of Tesla’s effort to strengthen infrastructure for electric vehicle adoption and long-distance travel in India.

Vehicle Models and Sales in India

Tesla began sales in India in 2025 with two imported Model Y variants priced at ₹59.89 lakh and ₹67.89 lakh, imported from Shanghai and subject to a 70% import duty. The Model Y rear-wheel-drive variant offers benefits such as long-term ownership savings, higher resale value, software updates, and bundled assistance.

According to FADA’s Vahan data, Tesla sold 104 units across September and October, with the Model Y driving most of the demand in the luxury EV segment.

Competing in India’s Luxury EV Market

Tesla enters a luxury EV market dominated by Mercedes-Benz and BMW, which sold approximately 460–480 luxury EVs in October 2025. Other competitors include the BMW iX1, Mercedes EQA, Volvo EC40, Kia EV6, and BYD Sealion 7. Tesla aims to differentiate itself through its integrated service model, technology, and charging infrastructure.

Global Context and Challenges

Tesla’s India expansion occurs amid a softening global sales momentum. In the September quarter, the company sold 497,100 units, a 7% increase year-on-year, but China sales dropped to 26,006 units in October, the lowest in three years due to rising competition.

Sharad Agarwal also highlighted Tesla’s technological edge, noting that many components used in its EVs are also incorporated in its Optimus robots, showcasing Tesla’s expertise beyond automobiles.

Future Prospects and Strategic Goals

The Gurugram centre represents Tesla’s commitment to providing premium EV experiences in India. By integrating sales, service, and supercharging infrastructure, Tesla aims to accelerate electric mobility adoption and compete effectively with established luxury EV brands. The move also aligns with the government’s push for EV adoption and supports Tesla’s goal to expand its footprint in the Indian market.
