News Synopsis

Leading Electric Vehicle manufacturer in the world, Tesla and the Indian government don’t seem to arrive at an agreement anytime soon. Tesla wants the Indian Government to reduce extremely high import duties so it can launch a few units of its car and observe how Indian users respond to it. This will help them to analyze the feasibility of their products in the Indian market before any further investment. The Indian Government on the other hand says that Tesla should install its manufacturing plant here in India and will provide any help required. Also, it would not allow Tesla to sell Cars manufactured in China in India. Recently, Arun Goel, Secretary of heavy Industries said that the Government of India is not planning to offer any incentive to Tesla as of now. Mr. Goel said: “No incentives benefiting only one individual company can be given. The concession plan is uniform (for the industry). We are a democracy. ”
