News Synopsis

According to Reuters, Tesla has cancelled three hiring events in China in response to Elon Musk's warnings about staff cuts at the company. According to a company WeChat account seen by the news agency, recruiting events for Tesla's R&D, sales, and supply chain departments were scheduled for June 16, 23, and 30.

The cancellations come just a day after Tesla announced two dozen new job openings in China for managers and engineers. A hiring event for "smart manufacturing" roles was scheduled for June 9, but it is unclear whether the event took place, according to the company WeChat.

According to Reuters, there are over 1,000 Tesla job openings on the social media platform that are still accepting applications. Musk announced last week that he planned to cut 10% of Tesla's salaried workforce. In an email to executives, he expressed concerns about the economy and stated that Tesla was "overstaffed in some areas." The subject line of the email read, "Pause all hiring globally."

According to Insider, Tesla employed nearly 100,000 people at the end of 2021; laying off 10% of the workforce would result in the loss of thousands of jobs.
