News Synopsis

Tata Motors is embarking on a strategic journey to set up a distinct sales network exclusively for its electric vehicles (EVs). The move comes as the company recognizes the unique needs and preferences of customers opting for eco-friendly models.

In a recent interaction with PTI, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, shed light on this significant development.

Meeting Varied Customer Requirements

Chandra explained that this separation is essential because EVs and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles cater to different customer requirements. With a growing portfolio of EVs, it becomes impractical to house both types of vehicles in the same outlet. This strategic move aims to ensure that customers receive the specialized attention and service they deserve.

Gradual Expansion of Exclusive Outlets

Tata Motors' current lineup of EVs includes the popular Nexon EV range, Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and the XPRES-T EV. To accommodate this diverse range and meet the rising demand, the company plans to experiment with exclusive outlets in select cities where EV sales have been on the rise. These pilot outlets will mark the beginning of a transition towards dedicated EV showrooms.

Driving Growth and Sustainability

Tata Motors' commitment to the EV segment reflects the increasing demand for eco-conscious transportation. Currently, EVs constitute 13-15% of the company's total sales, translating to 18-20% of revenue in the first quarter.

Chandra envisions this share growing to 25% over the next three to four years. Additionally, Tata Motors has set ambitious goals for EVs, aiming for them to comprise half of its passenger vehicle sales by 2030.

Nexon EV: The Technological Marvel

As part of this electrifying expansion, Tata Motors has unveiled the new Nexon EV. Priced between Rs 14.74-19.94 lakh (ex-showroom), this cutting-edge model offers a maximum range of 465 km on a single charge.

It boasts the ability to charge other compatible EVs and power various external devices, making it a versatile choice for tech-savvy consumers.

Intense Competition in the Compact SUV Segment

Tata Motors' Nexon faces fierce competition in the compact SUV segment, competing with leading players like Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet.

This segment has witnessed remarkable growth, evolving from 30,000 units a month in 2017 to a staggering 90,000 units a month today. Tata Motors has already sold 5.5 lakh units of the Nexon in India, solidifying its position in this highly competitive market.

A Bright Future for Tata Motors

With the strategic establishment of separate EV outlets and the introduction of innovative models like the Nexon EV, Tata Motors is poised for an exciting future in the electric vehicle industry.

The company is confident that these strategic moves will resonate with a broader audience, further establishing the Nexon's legacy as India's best-selling SUV.

Safety First: Six Airbags as Standard

The new generation Nexon places safety at the forefront, offering six airbags as a standard feature among other enhancements. This commitment to safety aligns with Tata Motors' dedication to providing top-tier vehicles to its customers.

In the fast-evolving landscape of electric mobility, Tata Motors is making strategic strides to cater to the diverse needs of its environmentally conscious customer base.

The establishment of exclusive EV showrooms and the launch of advanced models like the Nexon EV underscore the company's commitment to driving sustainability and innovation in the Indian automotive market.
