News Synopsis

IPL chairman Brijesh Patel has announced that Tata Group will replace the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo as the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League from this year.

Vivo had a deal of Rs 2,200 crore for title sponsorship from 2018-2022 but the company took a year break in 2020 when Dream11 replaced it as a sponsor.

BCCI has also said that it was bound to happen sooner or later as the Chinese brand’s presence was adding up to bad publicity for both the league and the company. Due to the negative sentiment around the Chinese products, Vivo had to pull out from the sponsorship with one season still left in the deal. The deal with Tata Group is for this year as BCCI will invite fresh traders for the next cycle from 2023.
