News Synopsis

The Women's Premier League has five years of title rights that have been obtained by Tata Group, the Indian Premier League's title sponsor.

On Tuesday, Tata Group acquired the title rights for the inaugural Women's Premier League, which will start on March 4 in Mumbai. "I am delighted to announce the #TataGroup as the title sponsor of the inaugural #WPL. With their support, we're confident that we can take women's cricket to the next level," Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, tweeted.

The deal's financial details were kept secret. Tata has won the rights for five years, a BCCI source told PTI. Last year, the Indian multinational company took over Vivo's status as the Indian Premier League's title sponsor.

Mumbai will host two sites for the first edition: Brabourne Stadium and D.Y. Patil Stadium. The BCCI received 951 crores through the sale of media rights, and the five teams were sold for 4,700 crores.

Smriti Mandhana, an Indian opener, was the most expensive purchase at the auction held earlier in the month, costing 3.40 crore.

“The TATA Women’s Premier League is going to be a significant tournament in the cricket calendar and it is wonderful to have the official partners on board. We believe this is a very positive sign for women’s cricket in India and the marquee tournament is going to grow from strength to strength in the years to follow. I thank all our partners for their support on this wonderful journey. We are sure that we will deliver great value to them.”, according to Mr. Arun Singh Dhumal, Chairperson of the IPL.
