News Synopsis

The Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (Tansim) plans to help create at least 10,000 startups in the state by 2026, said Sivarajah Ramanathan, CEO of Tansim.

Tansim is a nodal agency startup working on a new startup policy to strengthen the state's new investor ecosystem. "We founded Tansim a year ago. Our vision is to launch 10,000 new startups over the next four years. That's our med-term vision," Ramanathan said.

The agency will focus on 80 existing incubation centres in Tamil Nadu and take steps to connect them with markets and investors. It also creates a startup database and forms a mentor network. This is to find out how many startups there are in each district, their funding and the sectors in which they operate.

In addition, Tansim's Rs 30 crore was announced to encourage SC and ST entrepreneurial startups. The Minister also provided Rs 50 to the Emerging Sector Seed Fund to invest in Tamil Nadu-based start-ups. The state also plans to establish a Rs 75 crore startup centre in Chennai through the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).
