News Synopsis

Supertech twin towers situated in Noida Sector 93A are to be demolished by May 22 after the order of the Supreme Court. The firm that will demolish these towers says that it will just take nine seconds to bring these towers to the ground. Edifice Engineering, a company selected by the Noida Authority and the Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, will bring down the towers in collaboration with Jet Demolition, a company from South Africa. To contain the concrete debris when the building implodes, the columns of the towers will be covered with layers of wire mesh and geotextile fabric. Uttkarsh Mehta, Partner, Edifice Engineering, said: “Holes will be drilled into the columns to place the explosives. Around 2,500 kg to 4,000 kg of explosives could be required, but the final quantity can be ascertained only after a “test blast” that will take place at the end of this month or early next month.” The court ordered the demolition as the minimum distance between the towers was not observed and also they were built illegally without taking the consent of the individual flat owners as required under the UP Apartment Act. The 140-page order of the Supreme Court said: “The sanction given by NOIDA on 26 November 2009 and 2 March 2012 for the construction of T-16 and T-17 is violative of the minimum distance requirement under the NBR 2006, NBR 2010 and NBC 2005.”
