Subaru Aims to Build an Electric Vehicle Factory in Japan

News Synopsis

Subaru, the automobile manufacturing division of Japanese transportation conglomerate Subaru Corporation is planning to establish an electric vehicle factory in Japan. It is the first such plan for an automaker to do such a thing domestically. It is targeting to start operating the factory in the late 2020s, the Nikkei business daily, an economical newspaper of Japan said. 

It further said Subaru also expects to invest more than 100 billion Yen to boost EV production capabilities, along with those at other factories. In 2020 Subaru expects to set a target for EVs and hybrids to make up more than 40% of all global sales by 2030. 

The company released its first all-electric vehicle, Solterra in November which was developed jointly with Toyota Motors, its biggest shareholder. 

Subaru is the automobile manufacturing division of the Japanese transportation conglomerate, Subaru Corporation, the twenty-first largest automaker in the world by production in 2017.
