News Synopsis

The number of paying subscribers to the Comcast Corp. Peacock Streaming Service increased by more than 40% in the first quarter, partly due to the cramming of top sporting events such as the Super Bowl and the Beijing Winter Olympics in February.

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said that Peacock has more than 13 million paying customers and 28 million monthly active accounts as of March 31st. Comcast said in the fourth quarter, more than 9 million people paid to watch Peacock. It is also free for existing cable and broadband subscribers from other providers such as Comcast and Cox Communications Inc.

Based in Philadelphia, the owner of the Xfinity-branded broadband and cable services, NBCUniversal Media Empire, and Sky TV in the UK, Comcast increased its net income by 6.6%  to $3.55 billion, or 78 cents per share. Revenues increased 14% to $31 billion, boosted by NBCU's strong growth, but growth in broadband unit subscribers, which is the cornerstone of Comcast's business, continued to slow.
