News Synopsis

Spotify is entering the full-length music video space with the intention of upending YouTube's established hegemony in this field.

This move, which will begin with a test launch that is only available to its premium customers, represents Spotify's debut into a competitive market that YouTube has historically led for over two decades.

Spotify Launches Music Video Beta: Targeting One Billion Users by 2030

Starting on Wednesday, premium customers in a few countries—the UK, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Kenya—will have access to the beta version of Spotify's music video function.

This calculated growth is a part of Spotify's bold plan to reach one billion users by 2030, even in the face of fierce competition from industry heavyweights like Apple Music and YouTube, which provides music videos for free.

At first, Spotify will only have a small selection of music videos in its database. These videos will include both local favorites like Aluna and worldwide celebrities like Ed Sheeran.

This move expands upon Spotify's earlier forays into the video space, such as the "clips" it debuted last year, as well as its larger initiatives to broaden the range of material it offers by adding podcasts and audiobooks.

From Audio to Visuals: Spotify Enhances User Experience

Spotify has been investigating new ways to improve user experience and broaden its market reach in addition to music videos.

For instance, it just revealed that customers in Europe will be able to buy audiobooks and subscription packages straight from the app.

This is made possible by new European competition regulations, which enable Spotify to avoid paying Apple's thirty percent App Store charge.

Through the Now Playing section on compatible tracks, users will be able to access the music video functionality that has been incorporated into the current Spotify design.

On a variety of platforms, including PC, TV, iOS, and Android, users may quickly switch between audio and video modes.
