News Synopsis

South Korea and the United States are set to begin regular combined air force drills next week, according to sources, a further step to highlight North Korea's defensive stance against the evolving missile threat.

The allies will begin two weeks of Korean flight training on May 9. President Yoon Suk-yeol promised to strengthen the security alliance between Seoul and Washington under the slogan of "peace through strength."

The upcoming drill is a reduced version of the large-scale Max Thunder exercises that both countries have conducted in the past, with extensive mobilization of aviation resources and service members.

South Korea and the United States have recently stepped up their security coordination, including a March 24 intercontinental ballistic missile test-firing, following a North Korean missile launch.
