Sony suspends Playstation sales in Russia

News Synopsis

Sony Interactive Entertainment, the gaming division of Sony has announced that it will halt shipments of hardware to Russia. It also announced that it will stop software updates in the country. Joe Taraborrelli, spokesperson of Sony Interactive Entertainment said: "Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) joins the global community in calling for peace in Ukraine. We have suspended all software and hardware shipments, the launch of Gran Turismo 7, and operations of the PlayStation Store in Russia." Other than this, the company has announced to donate $ 2 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Activision Blizzard, another gaming company based in the United States has also halted the sales of its game in Russia. In a letter Daniel Alegre, President and COO of the company wrote: "We are doing everything possible to assist employees, and their families, who are being directly affected by this tragedy." Another gaming giant EA games also removed Russian teams from its FIFA and NHL games.
