News Synopsis

The popular social media platform Snapchat has launched Pixy, a pocket-sized free-flying sidekick drone. The company claims that the device, now available in the US and France, can automatically crop to portrait mode and quickly apply smart edits such as hyperspeed, bounce, orbit 3D, and jump cut.

It can hover, orbit, and follow user-leading locations without a controller or set-up. It is also able to land gently at the end of the flight. "Everything you need to capture the moment from a new perspective is in the palm of your hand, at the push of a button," the company added.

"We originally created Snapchat as a new way to use the camera for self-expression and communication. There are many ways to share your perspective, from lenses to glasses. Today, the power and magic of  Snap camera brings to new heights, "the company said in a blog post.

Flight videos can be sent wirelessly and stored in Snapchat Memories. From there, users can use Snapchat's editing tools, lenses, and sounds to customize what they capture.
