According to a study conducted by Deloitte, there is a shift observed in the automotive trends, in India. Electric and Hybrid Vehicles are gaining popularity among Indian consumers. As more and more people are getting aware of climate change and its consequences, about the increasing levels of carbon emissions and pollutants from vehicles, consumers are slightly shifting to electric and hybrid vehicles. Sky-high fuel prices, is also a reason behind this increased interest in EVs. Briefing about the study conducted, Rajeev Singh, Deloitte India partner and the automotive leader said: “Riding on the crest of evolving customer needs and disruptive innovations, the Indian automotive industry is going to witness a new era of growth. Our latest study delves deep into the changing consumer perceptions indicating a significant increase in the number of consumers, who are evaluating alternate power train options and this is likely to drive growth of EVs (especially two- and three-wheelers) in the country". Recently government in a bid to encourage consumers to shift to EVs has announced some new policies such as battery swapping and building EV infrastructure in its union budget.
