News Synopsis

According to The Wall Street Journal, Meta's Sheryl Sandberg was being investigated for utilising business resources to plan her wedding. Sandberg announced her resignation as head of operations at Meta, Facebook's parent company, on Wednesday. She stated that she will continue to serve on the company's board of directors.

She said, "I am not entirely sure what the future will bring — I have learned no one ever is. But I know it will include focusing more on my foundation and philanthropic work, which is more important to me than ever given how critical this moment is for women."

Sandberg's statement coincided with the company's examination of her use of corporate resources for wedding planning. Sandberg announced her engagement to Tom Bernthal, the founder and CEO of a consultancy firm based in Los Angeles, in 2020.

The investigation, which is still ongoing as of May, arose from another investigation into Sandberg after The Journal reported in April that she had pressed The Daily Mail, a UK tabloid, to stop reporting a story about her then-boyfriend Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, and a temporary restraining order brought against him by an ex.
