News Synopsis

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced that the upcoming Semicon India 2025, to be held from September 2–4 at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre – IICC), New Delhi, is set to witness unprecedented global participation.

Organized by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) in collaboration with SEMI, this fourth edition of the flagship event is centered around the theme:

“Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse.”

Global Footprint Expands at Semicon India 2025

Record Participation from Across the World

For the first time, over 300 companies from 18 countries will participate, making it the largest edition to date.

International Pavilions and Country Roundtables

“The event will, for the first time, feature four international pavilions from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. Eight country roundtables are also planned to promote bilateral partnerships between India and key semiconductor markets,” the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) stated.

Skilling, Innovation, and Startup Showcase

Building Talent for India’s Chip Ecosystem

To support India’s talent pipeline, the conference will include:

  • Dedicated workforce development programs

  • Upskilling sessions for students and engineers

  • Career guidance from industry leaders

Startups and States to Take the Stage

A special Semiconductor Design Startup Pavilion will promote innovation in chip design.

“The number of State Government Pavilions has risen to nine from six in the last edition,” indicating growing state-level engagement in semiconductor growth.

Industry and Policy Leaders to Lead Conversations

The three-day event will bring together global CXOs, technology experts, and policymakers to discuss:

  • Chip manufacturing and supply chain resilience

  • Advanced node technologies

  • Opportunities and risks in semiconductor expansion

  • Collaborations across international markets

India’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Strategy Gains Momentum

The Semicon India programme, with an outlay of ₹76,000 crore, aims to establish India as a trusted hub for semiconductor and display manufacturing.

New Chip Facility Near Jewar Airport

“The Union Cabinet has approved India’s sixth semiconductor manufacturing unit, which will come up near Jewar Airport in Uttar Pradesh through a joint venture between the HCL Group and Taiwan’s Foxconn.”

The plant is designed to produce 36 million chips monthly from 20,000 wafers and is expected to generate 2,000 jobs.

Policy Changes and SEZ Amendments to Fuel Growth

To further encourage semiconductor investments, the government has:

  • Amended Special Economic Zone (SEZ) rules

  • Addressed capital-intensive and long-gestation industry needs

  • Enhanced investor confidence for semiconductor and electronics manufacturing

These reforms reflect India’s commitment to becoming a semiconductor superpower through innovation, talent, and infrastructure.

Conclusion

Semicon India 2025 is poised to be a milestone event in India's journey toward becoming a global semiconductor leader. With participation from over 300 companies across 18 nations, and the debut of international pavilions from countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia, the conference reflects growing global confidence in India’s semiconductor potential.

Backed by the ₹76,000-crore Semicon India Programme, the event will showcase India’s expanding capabilities across design, manufacturing, talent development, and policy innovation.

Strategic partnerships with global players, a rising number of state government pavilions, and a focus on skilling and startup ecosystems demonstrate a holistic approach to building a sustainable semiconductor value chain.

Furthermore, the approval of a sixth fabrication unit near Jewar Airport signals concrete progress in manufacturing readiness. With robust policy support, including SEZ reforms tailored to capital-intensive industries, Semicon India 2025 will not just display India's preparedness—it will help define its role in the future of global microelectronics.
