SBI Appointed Alok Kumar as the New Managing Director

News Synopsis

Alok Kumar has been appointed as the Managing Director of State Bank of India. Earlier he held the position of Deputy Managing Director of SBI and has been appointed for the next two years. Alok Kumar currently had the responsibility of finance

Now he has been given the responsibility of Corporate Banking and Information Technology in the country's largest bank. Alok Kumar will takeover Ashwini Bhatia, who has been made a Whole Time Member of Security Exchange Board of India. His tenure in SBI ended on 31 May 2022. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet accepted the proposal to appoint Alok Kumar as Managing Director. This proposal was given by the Department of Financial Services.

Alok Kumar's two-year term will end on June 30, 2024. Alok Kumar was appointed as the Chief General Manager, Delhi Region of SBI for the last three years. He started his career with SBI as a Probationary Officer in the year 1987. In the last 32 years, he has handled different important responsibilities across multiple branches in the country.

After the appointment of Alok Kumar, there are now four managing directors of SBI. Above these four is Chairman Dinesh Khara. Other than Alok Kumar, CS Setty, Swaminathan Jankiram, and Ashwini Kumar Tiwari are the other three managing directors of the bank. CS Setty has the responsibility for Retail Banking, Swaminathan is responsible for stressed assets, while Ashwini Tiwari is in charge of international banking.
