News Synopsis

According to the worldwide quarterly PC devices tracker Q1 22 by market research firm International Data Corp, Samsung was India's number one tablet brand in the first quarter of 2022.

The South Korean company accounted for 40% of India's tablet shipments during the quarter, with a gradual increase of 10%. According to IDC, the total number of tablets shipped from all brands during the quarter was close to 1.5 million.

In the premium segment ($500+), Samsung achieved 8.3% continuous growth with the new launch of the Galaxy Tab S8 series. Sandeep Poswal, the business head of Samsung India's new computing business, believes that the Galaxy Tab S8 series, especially the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and Galaxy Tab A8 series, are responsible for the growth.

The demand for laptops, tablets, and other devices was increased due to the pandemic-led shift to hybrid work and online learning. According to a report released in May by CyberMedia Research, tablet shipments in India during the March quarter grew 68% year on year with 4G tablets growing at 74% year on year.

However, according to a CMR report, Lenovo is the leading tablet brand, accounting for 36% of quarterly shipments, with Apple and Samsung ranked second with a 22% market share. CMR has returned Lenovo's advantage to the trading business and entered the retail market.
