News Synopsis

According to Bloomberg, the head of Russia's space agency, on Saturday,  announced that the country as a result of economic sanctions imposed on it after the invasion of Ukraine will leave the International Space Station

Tass and RIA Novosti, two Russian state news agencies, on Saturday reported that Dmitry Rogozin, General Director of Roscosmos in an interview, told that the decision had already been confirmed. The General Director reportedly said, "The decision has been taken already, we're not obliged to talk about it publicly. I can say this only — in accordance with our obligations, we'll inform our partners about the end of our work on the ISS with a year's notice."

Earlier in the month of April, Rogozin slammed the litany of Western economic sanctions imposed on Russia, informing that Roscosmos would stop cooperation on the International Space Station with NASA and the European Space Agency. In a tweet, he had said, "I believe that the restoration of normal relations between partners in the International Space Station and other joint projects is possible only with the complete and unconditional lifting of illegal sanctions.”
