News Synopsis

On Thursday, amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Kremlin imposed a travel ban on the CEO of the Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, and 28 other eminent Americans. These sanctions were imposed in retaliation for Western sanctions against Russia following its attack on its neighbor, Ukraine. The newly imposed sanctions also include top Pentagon officials, US business leaders, and journalists, including Vice President Kamala Harris, LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky, and the ABC reporter George Stephanopoulos. According to an Insider translation of the ministry's press release, the Foreign Ministry of Russia informed that these people would be denied entry into Russia on an "indefinite basis,".

According to a translation, the ministry told that it identified the people as responsible for shaping "the Russophobic agenda" in the United States. However, the sanctions are likely to have no significant effect on Zuckerberg or any of the people on this list other than stopping them from visiting Russia. Interestingly, the list did not contain the names of top US business leaders like Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal or Google CEO Sundar Pichai, even though Twitter and YouTube, owned by tech giant Google, have been proactive in handling Russian misinformation.
