News Synopsis

Researchers at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities showcased a 3D printer that could print the OLED display. The researchers also claim that once the printer is commercially available in the market it will be major breakthrough in terms of OLED displays and could even lead to the reduction in the prices of OLED screens.

The researchers used a customized printer for the experiment. They used combined methods of 3D printing to produce six layers of the display. This is not the first time when researchers have engaged themselves in printing an OLED display. However, earlier attempts have been unsuccessful in providing light-emitting layers.

Researchers have claimed that the OLED display is flexible and provides exhibit stable emission over the 2,000 bending cycles and is suitable for many applications such as TV, mobile phones, monitors and wearable devices.

The device can still take some time to enter the commercial market. There are still multiple challenges that the device can face as during the experiment, the researchers developed a 1.5 inch OLED display with 64 pixels which can only be used in smaller devices.

However, researchers have claimed that they are planning to develop a 3D printer that is able to print OLED displays with high resolution and improved brightness.
