News Synopsis

The auto giants Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motor Corp are going to work together to for developing electric vehicles. The trio which is also known as Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance will triple the investment to develop electric vehicles. 

The companies expect to come with 30 electric vehicles, underpinned by five common EV platforms. These EV platforms are expected to be used for 90% of the electric vehicles produced. Four common EV platforms are already developed. 

The companies are expected to use common batteries and other EV components, which will reduce the battery manufacturing cost for all three companies. The group is also expected to share the solid-state lithium-ion battery technology of Nissan, which is still in its development stage. 

Nissan has revealed its plans to accelerate the EV plans with the launch of 13 electrified vehicles by 2030. The company also aims at electrifying half of its cars by 2030 along with EVs and e-power hybrids. Renault has also claimed to be 100% electric by 2030.
