News Synopsis

The independent product and price comparison service provider, PriceRunner has sued Google for about $2.4 billion at Stockholm’s patent and market court. The lawsuit follows the conclusion of a legal ruling in the European Union that states Google has breached antitrust laws by manipulating search results in favour of its own comparison shopping services.

Mikael Lindahl, the chief executive officer at PriceRunner has said that this is a matter of survival for many European entrepreneurial companies and job opportunities within the tech industry. The spokesperson of Google, Emily Clark has said that the company is looking forward to defending the case in court.

She also said that PriceRunner has decided not to use shopping ads on Google, and this might be the reason why it has not seen the same successes as others have. Whereas, PriceRunner expects that the final damages of the lawsuit will be significantly higher as the violation is still going on.

Google has also filed a challenge against the ruling at the EU Court of Justice because we feel there are areas that require legal clarification from the bloc’s top judges.
