PM Modi will Virtually attend the BIMTSEC Group’s Meeting

News Synopsis

The fifth edition of the BIMSTEC summit is going to be held on March 30th and will be hosted by Sri Lanka. BIMSTEC stands for Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation. It is a seven-nation group that comprises India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Nepal, and Bhutan. Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi will also be virtually attending the summit. The group will focus on expanding economic engagement among its member countries. The Ministry of External Affairs stated: "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the 5th BIMSTEC Summit on March 30. The summit meeting, which is being held in virtual mode, will be hosted by Sri Lanka, the current BIMSTEC chair." The Ministry further informed that prior to the meeting that is set to be held on March 30th, a meeting of BIMSTEC senior officials will take place on March 28, which will be followed by meetings of the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers (BMM) on March 29. S. Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs will be visiting Sri Lanka to attend the meeting of the BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers.
