News Synopsis

PhysicsWallah, an edtech platform, announced the purchase of another edtech business, FreeCo, recently. The financial terms of the transaction, however, were not disclosed.

PhysicsWallah will be able to strengthen its present services and improve students' learning experiences as a result of the acquisition. Both teams will collaborate in areas like as content library management, faculty management, and resource use across two businesses.

The start-up will also use the experience of the FreeCo team to streamline its present doubt-resolution capabilities and to upgrade its existing set of products and services."With FreeCo's ed-tech expertise, we are confident in modernizing our existing learning pedagogies and providing aspirants with superior learning options."

"We want to make learning more accessible and learner-centered for kids by employing innovative tools and technology," stated Alakh Pandey, CEO and cofounder of PhysicsWallah. As part of the agreement, PhysicsWallah will hire 15 FreeCo staff.

PhysicsWallah, founded in 2020 by Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari, primarily targets students studying for competitive exams such as NEET and JEE. It has also ventured into the offline arena, launching 'PW Vidyapeeths' in six cities, including Kota and Delhi.

In addition, the unicorn offers hybrid lessons in 22 locations across India, serving 10 lakh students. By 2025, PhysicsWallah hopes to reach more than 250 million pupils. This is PhysicsWallah's first purchase since its massive $100 million funding round in June of this year. This funding round propelled the firm into the unicorn club, making it the 101st startup to do so.

Prashant Soni and Nikhil Chaudhary, on the other side, formed FreeCo in 2020. It is a startup that solves problems and manages resources for both B2B and B2C clients. Among other things, it provides content services, online tutoring, and pen tab video solutions.

The Jaipur-based startup claims to have worked with 28 B2B clients, including major edtech companies like BYJU'S, Unacademy, and others. Meanwhile, the claimed financial winter continues to grip the edtech space. The edtech sector has taken the brunt of the fallout from fears of a recession and restrictive monetary policy.
