News Synopsis

PhysicsWallah, an educational technology platform for engineering and medical entrance exams, raised $100 million in its Series A funding round led by Westbridge and GSV Ventures. The firm has become India’s  101st unicorn along with being the first ed-tech player this year to touch the coveted unicorn club with this development, the company said in a statement.

The company will be using the raised capital to expand the business along with its branding, opening more PW centers, and introducing more course offerings. It currently has 5.2 million Android downloads and 6.9 million subscribers on its YouTube.

PhysicsWallah (PW) was launched during the 2020 pandemic and aims to prepare for engineering and medical entrance exams. Founded by Alakh Pandy and Prateek Maheshwari, PW specializes in providing comprehensive lectures and sessions on YouTube, PW apps, and websites for students pursuing NEET and JEE Mains.

According to Pandey, the company has been profitable with positive cash flow and reserves since its inception. The company's revenue is projected to grow nine-fold year-on-year in FY23 to $65 million in 2011, which ends in March next year.
