News Synopsis

Philips, a global leader in health technology, has announced an ambitious expansion plan for its male grooming and mother-and-child care portfolios in India. The company also intends to bring select international product categories from its global lineup to the Indian market, aiming to meet the rising demand for premium personal care solutions among Indian consumers.

This move aligns with the company’s vision to strengthen its footprint in India’s fast-evolving personal health and wellness sector, a market witnessing a significant shift toward high-quality, tech-enabled, and lifestyle-focused products.

Philips Taps Gen Z with New Grooming Devices

OneBlade Launch Sees Strong Market Response

Recently, Philips India introduced its rechargeable intimate skin-protect grooming device “OneBlade”, specifically designed for Gen Z consumers seeking modern, convenient grooming solutions. The product reflects Philips’ strategy to appeal to a younger, digitally savvy audience that values comfort, innovation, and performance in personal care tools.

The company revealed that its premium product segment has grown by over 75%, indicating a strong consumer preference shift toward high-end offerings in grooming and health care devices.

“We will continue to strengthen male grooming and mother-and-child care with continuous innovations, while also bringing our global product categories, already successful in other markets, into India,” said Smit Shukla, Head of Philips Personal Health India Subcontinent, in an interview with a news agency.

Philips Evaluates Oral Care Expansion in India

According to Shukla, Philips holds a diverse global portfolio in oral care and is currently evaluating its potential entry into the Indian market. The company is carefully assessing consumer preferences to determine which products could generate the highest market demand.

This assessment indicates Philips’ strategic intent to localize its global innovations and tailor them to India’s consumer expectations, which are increasingly leaning toward holistic health and lifestyle products.

Strong Market Share in Grooming Segment

Premium Growth Outpaces Supply

Vidyut Kaul, Head of Personal Health for Philips’ Growth Region (JAPAC, ISC, META & LATAM), shared that excluding manual razors, India’s male grooming market has been growing at a mid-to-high single-digit annual rate over the past five years.

Philips India currently holds an impressive 50–60% market share in the grooming segment, underscoring its dominance and consumer trust in the category.

In April 2024, the company launched its most advanced and premium shaver, which saw demand exceed supply levels, signaling robust consumer appetite for top-tier personal care products.

Kaul highlighted that the male grooming segment remains a major growth driver, closely followed by mother-and-child care, both of which have performed exceptionally well over the past two to three years.

Future Growth Strategy: Innovation and Accessibility

Philips to Boost Access Across India

Philips’ strategic roadmap for India involves expanding product access while continuing to innovate within its key verticals.

“In addition, the personal care and personal grooming segments will continue to accelerate the growth journey in India,” Kaul added.

With rising disposable incomes, growing health awareness, and the increasing adoption of personal grooming as a lifestyle choice, India offers a fertile ground for expansion in Philips’ core segments. The company’s focus on premiumization and category diversification reflects its confidence in India’s evolving consumer ecosystem.

Conclusion: Philips Bets Big on India’s Wellness Revolution

Philips’ renewed focus on male grooming and mother-and-child care signals its long-term commitment to India’s booming personal health and lifestyle market. By introducing global innovations and premium grooming solutions, the company aims to strengthen its leadership position and cater to a new generation of health-conscious and quality-driven consumers.

As India continues its rapid growth in the wellness and self-care sectors, Philips’ expansion strategy is poised to not only tap new consumer bases but also redefine the country’s personal care innovation landscape.
