News Synopsis

PG&E Corp has reached a settlement with the district attorneys from six California counties over the 2021 Dixie and 2019 Kincade Fire

The settlement requires PG&E to pay approximately $55 million over five years. This amount includes payments to residents who have lost their homes and to improve their existing electrical infrastructure. The company needs to donate more than $35 million to a local charity, among other efforts.

As part of the agreement, the attorneys said no criminal charges would be filed against the company for the Dixie fire and the criminal charges related to the Kinkade fire in Sonoma County would be dismissed.

Hollister said the money would help the remote and rural Plumas counties recover from the Dixie fire, the second-largest wildfire in the state's recorded history. "We got clobbered by that fire. That fire took almost half of Plumas County," Hollister said.

PG&E has also agreed to create 80 to 100 new jobs in Sonoma County and another 80 to 100 jobs in Butte, Lassen, Plumas, Shasta and Tehama County.

As part of the agreement, PG&E said it would monitor "vegetation management and system inspection work in six districts" for five years. The monitor is independent of PG&E.
