News Synopsis

Facebook since its launch has emerged as the biggest player in the ecosystem of social media platforms. It has grown leaps and bounds in the past few years. Also, its strategy to the acquisition of other social media platforms such as Whatsapp, Instagram, etc to acquire new users has paid the company well. In a bid to stretch its reach and expand its business in third world countries or developing nations it launched a program in collaboration with the local cellular provider to give free internet to poor countries including Pakistan, Indonesia, and the Philippines so that the users could access a limited version the social media platform. This move was well appreciated as it was created to provide internet connectivity to the masses. However, there have been certain complaints from users that they are being billed despite facebook provided technology. Reacting to this Facebook issued a statement blaming a software glitch behind the billing. Facebook has started an investigation to look into this matter and is trying to resolve the problem at the earliest.
