News Synopsis

One of the biggest platforms for wallets and payment services, Paytm, purportedly experienced a significant data breach in 2020. The business purportedly received a ransom demand after the data leak, however it has not acknowledged this.

A data breach at Paytm occurred in 2020, and information on more than 3.4 million customers was found online, according to Firefox Monitor, a security tracker from Mozilla that alerts users when their email or cell number has been exposed.

Paytm has updated and explained the leak. "The data of our consumers is entirely protected, and concerns about data leaks in 2020 are wholly untrue and unsupported. An apparent data breach on the Firefox browser appears to be caused by a phoney dump that was uploaded to the website haveibeenpwned.com. In order to fix the issue, we are speaking with Firefox and the platform, a Paytm spokeswoman confirmed.

Data like the user's phone number, email address, purchase history, gender, date of birth, location, and income levels were compromised, according to a study by Firefox Monitor. Fortunately, the data leak did not expose payment details like stored cards. Since the passwords were not compromised as a result of the data incident, you do not need to update them.
