News Synopsis

A couple of days ago, the Food Delivery platform, Zomato announced its 10 minutes delivery feature in order to reduce its delivery time and enhance its service. However, it did not go well as expected. Zomato is facing a backlash for its new feature on Social media as netizens think it will put delivery associates' life in danger. Also, it would be dangerous for other people as well. The delivery partners have also expressed their concerns with the company’s new policy. The Indian Federation of App-based Transport Workers (IFAT) and Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) have also criticized the newly launched feature and asked the company to treat their delivery partners as ‘human beings’. They have also advised the food delivery platform to fix the current issues in their system. The national general secretary of IFAT and the founder state head of TGPWU Shaik Salauddin said: “Zomato in most of the cases has not been able to resolve issues like leaked meals, which arises from faulty packaging and executing fast delivery. As a result delivery partners/workers have been penalized quite a few times. While planning to provide 10-min deliveries to its customers Zomato needs to resolve these issues and concerns of the workers.”
