News Synopsis

Chinese Smartphone company, Oppo has launched a self-developed chip for smartphones. The chip is named MariSilicon X. It is a Neural Processing Unit, which helps to take better quality pictures and videos through a smartphone. The chips will be manufactured at the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd and will be installed in the upcoming Find X series of Oppo, which will be launched in early 2022.

The parent company of Oppo, BBK Electronics is heavily engaged in the chip sector. Along with MariSilicon X, it has also developed a power management chip that will be used in some of the chargers. Other than that, Vivo, another smartphone brand under BBK Electronics has also announced an Image Signal Processor chip (ISP) that would be used in its new smartphone series.

The companies engaging themselves in the production of chips is seen as a push from the Chinese government to boost the chip production of the country. After things started getting better after the pandemic, the automobile sector still suffered from the chip shortage. Governments and companies all around the world have been trying to fulfill this shortage.
