Oppo is Reportedly Developing its own Chipset

News Synopsis

According to recent reports, China-based smartphone manufacturer Oppo is working on manufacturing its own chipset. Also, it is likely to be launched to be unveiled in the year 2023. Oppo decided this to cut its reliance on Snapdragon and MediaTek. Other smartphone companies like Apple, Google, and Samsung are already manufacturing their own processor. Previously, the smartphone maker at its Inno Day 2022 annual event has showcased a neural processing unit (NPU) dubbed as MariSilicon X. As per a report by IT Home, Shanghai Zheku which is a subsidiary of Oppo is developing an application processor (AP) chipset. The said processor is expected to enter mass production in 2023. This processor will be produced on the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) 6nm process node. Also, there have been reports that Oppo is acquiring chip developers and AI experts from Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Huawei. However, it has not yet been disclosed whether this processor will be used in budget smartphones or flagship devices. Additionally, Oppo is reportedly also working on a system on a chip (SoC) based on TSMC’s 4nm process node.
