News Synopsis

Online shopping platforms such as Meesho, Amazon, and Flipkart have been huge hits at the Holi Festival as the pandemic is accelerating the transition to e-commerce.

Meesho, a fast-growing e-commerce platform, said it received more than 14 million orders at its three-day Holi sales event from March 4th to March 6th. In fact, the SoftBank-backed platform surpassed last year's peak orders for Diwali sales, which is usually the largest festival shopping season in the country.

Flipkart's social commerce platform, Shopsy, has also seen some extraordinary shopping trends as it celebrates its first Holi festival with its customers. The platform recorded a 5x growth in the demand for colours along with 2x growth in apparel.

Amazon also curated a Holy Shopping Store, designed for one-stop access to all your Holy Shopping needs,  from herbal paints and cosmetology to fashion and beauty items, pooja essentials, waterproof gadgets and other accessories.

Another major e-commerce company, Snapdeal, has announced that it will launch a Holi special store, which offers up to 85% off a variety of products such as natural Holi paint, candies, T-shirts, waterproof footwear and others.

Online fashion platform Myntra also said it is experiencing strong demand for the Holi festival weekend. “The colour festival is also an opportunity for people to like to dress up, which is why there is a growing demand in the Indian apparel and cosmetology category,” said a Myntra spokesperson.
