Its Beauty over biotech as Falguni Nayar surpassed Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon as the country's most successful self-made woman, with a net worth of Rs57,520 crore, according to Kotak Private Banking Hurun's list of the country's richest women. Nyar's ranking was up nine places on the rankings, following her company, Nykaa, was listed on the stock exchange last year.

Roshni Nadar Malhotra of HCL Technologies, however, retained her title of the most wealthy woman on the list, with an estimated amount of Rs 84,330 for the second time in two years. A total of 25 women have been added to it this year according to the report. The report also highlights that the threshold of wealth needed to make it into the list has nearly doubled from last year's the amount of Rs 300 crore. The women who are on the list for 2021 are averaging approximately Rs4,170 crore, compared to the previous year.

"Over the decades, Indian women are slowly but surely coming into own, creating an identity for themselves with expertise, knowledge as well as passion and understanding," said Oisharya Das CEO -private bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank. The list is determined by the women's net worth at the time of 31 December 2021. Women of all ages have become billionaires themselves.


Although Biocon's founder, Biocon, Shaw was fired by her industry pharmaceuticals was also the one with the highest amount of new entries which was followed by consumer goods and healthcare. Nine out of Twenty women, who are under 40 or younger are self-made, as per the study. Three top managers have are also on the list. Pepsico's Indra Nooyi is the most affluent professional manager, boasting an estimated wealth of Rs 5,040 crore. The aged 33, Kanika Tekriwal from Jetsetgo is considered to be the highest-paid self-made female.

"Women-led prosperity directly benefits women's work, their families as well as the overall social. Women which comprise 50 percent of India's total population, into the workforce or in wealth creation is a way to break down social obstacles," said Anas Rahman Junaid MD, chief researcher of Hurun India.
