Japanese automaker Nissan is preparing to introduce a new mid-size SUV in the Indian market called the Nissan Tekton. Recently spotted undergoing road tests near Pune, the upcoming SUV is expected to compete directly with popular models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Built on the same platform as the next-generation Renault Duster, the Tekton aims to offer a blend of bold styling, advanced features, and multiple powertrain options.

The upcoming Nissan Tekton is expected to become a key addition to Nissan’s SUV lineup in India. Positioned in the competitive 4.2- to 4.5-metre mid-size SUV category, the vehicle is designed to appeal to Indian buyers seeking a stylish yet practical family SUV.

The model has been spotted testing several times under heavy camouflage, with the latest sightings reported around Pimpri near Pune, an area known for frequent automotive testing activity. These test mules offer a glimpse into the vehicle’s dimensions and proportions, hinting at a strong road presence.

Although the SUV shares its underlying architecture with the upcoming Renault Duster, Nissan is expected to differentiate the Tekton through a more sophisticated and urban-focused design language. The styling reportedly draws inspiration from larger global SUVs such as the Nissan Patrol, giving it a more premium and commanding appearance.

Exterior Design and Styling Highlights

Recent test sightings suggest that the camouflaged prototype running on steel wheels is likely the base variant of the Nissan Tekton. Even with camouflage, several distinctive styling cues are visible.

The SUV features squared-off wheel arches that enhance its muscular stance. Another noticeable design element is the rear door handles mounted on the C-pillar, a design choice that adds a sporty touch. The roofline appears slightly curved, giving the vehicle a balanced and modern silhouette.

At the rear, the Tekton includes a roof-mounted spoiler and a slanted rear windshield, contributing to its dynamic design. The tail section also features connected C-shaped LED taillamps and a bold bumper design that enhances the SUV’s rugged look.

Although the front design was not clearly visible in the latest spy shots, earlier reports indicate that the Tekton will feature top-mounted LED daytime running lights, a full-width LED light bar, and sharp LED headlamps. A large rectangular grille with twin chrome bars and rugged bumper cladding are also expected to be part of the design. The SUV is likely to showcase prominent TEKTON 3D badging to reinforce its identity.

Dimensionally, the Tekton is expected to mirror the size of the new Renault Duster, which measures approximately 4,345 mm in length, 1,815 mm in width, and 1,703 mm in height, with a wheelbase of around 2,657 mm. These proportions should provide generous interior space and improved road stability.

Interior Features and Cabin Technology

Inside the cabin, the Nissan Tekton will likely feature a unique interior layout compared to the Renault Duster, despite sharing certain components between the two models. Nissan is expected to offer distinct dashboard styling, premium upholstery options, and a refined interior theme to differentiate the Tekton from its Renault counterpart.

Higher variants of the SUV are anticipated to include a modern dual-screen setup combining the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. Other premium features expected in the top trims include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and an advanced air purification system with an AQI display.

The likely lineup may include a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine, and a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain. This diverse engine range will allow the SUV to cater to different types of buyers—from those prioritizing fuel efficiency to enthusiasts seeking higher performance.

The Tekton will mark Nissan’s second major launch of the year after the upcoming Nissan Gravite MPV. The company is also planning a three-row SUV based on the Tekton platform, which will target larger family SUV buyers.

Competition in the Mid-Size SUV Segment

Once launched, the Nissan Tekton will enter one of the most competitive segments in the Indian automotive market. The SUV will compete directly with established models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Skoda Kushaq.

In addition, the future three-row version of the Tekton is expected to compete with larger SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Carens, Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio N, and MG Hector Plus.

Launch Timeline and Expectations

Initially, Nissan had planned to unveil the Nissan Tekton in February. However, the launch timeline has been pushed back, and the company has yet to announce a revised debut date.

Despite the delay, the frequent sightings of test vehicles suggest that the development process is in its final stages. With strong styling, advanced features, and multiple engine options, the Tekton could become an important product for Nissan as it strengthens its presence in India’s growing SUV market.
