News Synopsis

On Friday, a piece of positive news surfaced for all the Environmentalists around the world. It was announced that there would be a new treaty to effectively curb the dangerously growing levels of global plastic pollution. In a bid to achieve this around 200 countries have decided to initiate negotiations on an international agreement to make an effective action plan for the plastic crisis. Plastic Pollution has reached at a dangerous level. It is to be believed that it destroys habitats and wildlife and also disrupts the food chain. Steve Fletcher, Professor of the University of Portsmouth said: "One country can't deal with plastic pollution alone, no matter how good its policies are. We need a global agreement to enable us to deal with the widespread challenges that plastic gives us as a society." Environmentalist says that this initiative will be the most effective environmental action plan after the 1989 Montreal Protocol. The Montreal Protocol was introduced to keep a check ozone depleting substances.
