News Synopsis

Google Chrome users are once again at risk of being infected with a banking trojan. It's not a new one this time, but it is capable of stealing your credit and debit card information. Emotet Malware spreads primarily through spam email and tempts users to click on infected files and links. The Emotet virus was originally designed to gain access to sensitive and private information on foreign devices.

After a brief hiatus, it appears that Emotet has returned with a new variant that targets Google Chrome users by stealing their credit card information. Emotet infiltrates your system and attempts to steal credit card information such as name, expiry date, and card numbers from Google Chrome profiles. It collects data and sends it to the command-and-control (C2) server. It can also conceal itself from anti-virus software.

Tips for protecting yourself from Emotet

Install all security updates to keep the virus at bay.

Scan your system on a regular basis and install all necessary virus and malware protection software.

Read the emails carefully and avoid clicking on any suspicious links.

Maintain a backup of your data.

Emotet is regarded as one of the most dangerous malwares because it not only spreads through email but also serves as a dropper for other malwares such as TrickBot. TrickBot is also a banking trojan that sends fraudulent banking links to steal and access personal information, financial details, and account credentials.
