News Synopsis

As the selection committee announced 35 sportsmen for the Arjuna award in Delhi, India's stunning performance at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics was reflected in a record 11 recommendations for the Khel Ratna medal, including champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. Individual Olympic medalists Ravi Dahiya and Lovloina Borgohain were nominated for the country's highest sports honor, Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna. PR Sreejesh, a seasoned hockey goalie, and Mithali Raj were chosen with Sunil Chhetri, to win the honor. All five gold medalists from the Tokyo Paralympics were also recognized for their achievements, as their names were included in the list.

In addition, the committee recommended 35 athletes for the Arjuna Award. All players of the bronze-medal-winning men's hockey team from the Tokyo Olympics have been nominated for the Arjuna Award. Vandana Katariya and Monika of the women's hockey team, Bhavani Devi, the first Indian fencer, boxer Simranjit Kaur, wrestler Deepak Punia, shooter Abhishek Verma, kabaddi player Sandeep Narwal, and women's tennis player Ankita Raina are among those who have received recommendations.
