News Synopsis

To accelerate the adoption of AI (artificial intelligence) in India, Nasscom and Microsoft have announced the second edition of the "AI Gamechangers" award on Wednesday.  The program serves as a platform for start-ups, businesses, academia, governments and NGOs to present innovation in the field of AI.

Debjani Ghosh, President of Nasscom has said that India was ranked 8th in the top 10 countries by AI patent families on a global level, even without having any AI-related patent filing prior to 2022.

The program also encourages the recommendation of influential AI solutions designed for social impact. Over 5,000 AI patents have been filed in India over the last 10 years, and 94% have been filed over the last 5 years.

Data and AI could boost India's GDP by $450-500 billion by 2025, 10% of the $5 trillion targets. Around 45% of this value is likely to be delivered by three sectors, Consumer goods and retail; agriculture and banking; and insurance. The entries will be featured in the annual “AI Gamechangers” compendium at the flagship Xperience AI Summit of Nasscom.

Dr Rohini Srivathsa, National Technology Officer, at Microsoft India has said that the company has a huge opportunity to make AI work at scale for the country enabling investment, jobs and inclusive growth.
