News Synopsis

Microsoft is going to change the name of Office 365 next month. Microsoft Office 365 will be known as Microsoft 365 from November 2022. This is the first time after April 2020 that the name is going to change. Microsoft is also removing the Office branding from other product names such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other apps.

Microsoft has given this information on the FAQs of its website. Currently, the Microsoft Office app is being accessed through Office.com, but in the future, this domain will be Microsoft365.com. The logo will also change with the new branding.

According to the FAQs page, the name change will start next month and will be visible across all Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices. Apart from this, the company will launch a separate app for mobile and desktop called Microsoft 365. This app will also inform the users about changing their names.

Changes from the logo to the design will only apply to apps in Microsoft 365 and not Microsoft Office, although the names and branding of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, Clipchamp, Stream, and Designer will remain the same.

It's a bit surprising that the company chose to rename it's Office suite Microsoft 365. Both in the business and the home, "Microsoft Office" has long been a well-known brand name.

For people who prefer to purchase and own their productivity suites rather than subscribe to Microsoft 365's subscription service for a cloud-based product, the name "Office" has actually been a ray of hope. Additionally, customers can be perplexed as to which parts of Office are cloud-based and which are standalone apps as a result of the name change from Office to Microsoft 365.
