News Synopsis

According to Sony data, last weekend's No.1 release, the comic book adaptation, Morbius featuring Jared Leto, collect $39 million from about 60% of men and 46% under the age of 25. Earlier releases “The Batman,” “Uncharted” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” saw auditoriums skew about 60, with most of the ticket buyers falling under the age of 30.

The Young men most likely ready to return to the cinema are causing executives to readjust their publishing strategies, influencing what post-pandemic entertainment looks like to everyone.

For movies released this year and opened for more than $20 million, the audience is about 59% male with around 36% of ticket buyers being men over the age of 30, according to Comscore, which tracks box office data.

While such films are bringing consumers back to the theatres the overall attendance at theatres is still below pre-pandemic levels. In 2021, US and Canada revenue totalled $4.6 billion, less than half of  2019 ticket revenue of $11.4 billion, according to Comscore.

Mr Goldstein of Warner Bros has said that the overall number of movies being released has fallen from around 165 wide-releases titles in a year to an expected 95 this year.
