News Synopsis

Moderna Inc said Friday that it was recalling 764,900 doses of COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by contract manufacturer Rovi after the vials were found to be contaminated with foreign substances.

The company has said that no safety issues have been found in the lots that were distributed in Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Sweden in January.

Japanese authorities stopped using some doses of the vaccine last year, but Moderna later recalled that investigations found stainless steel contaminants in some vials.

The drugmaker has said that the contamination was found in just one vial, and a whole lot of vaccines are recalled due to an abundance of caution. The company has not disclosed what was found in the vials. More than 900 million doses of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine have been administered worldwide to date.
