News Synopsis

Indian women’s cricket team skipper, Mithali Raj became the first women cricketer to appear in six ICC Women’s Cricket World Cups. She has also become the third cricketer to appear in have appeared in Cricket World Cups.

The 39-year-old, who was leading India in the opening game of the World Cup campaign here, managed only 9 runs in 36 appearances when she was caught by Pakistan's Diana Baig bowling Nashra Sandu on Sunday.

Former Pakistan cricketer, Javed Miandad was the first cricketer to appear in six Men’s Cricket World Cups from 1975 to 1996. 

Mithali Raj made her tournament debut in 2000. She now equals Australian legend Belinda Clark by captaining at her fourth ICC Women’s World Cup. Both Mithali Raj and Belinda Clark have captained their country at more than two world cups. 

It's not just her captaincy that is breaking records, her World Cup career spans more than  20 years with no women having participated in the ICC Women's World Championship 20 years away.

Mithali Raj, who appeared in the World Cup six times, is the only woman to appear in the Women's World Cup five times, overtaking the English duo of Charlotte Edwards, Claire Taylor and Hockley.
