News Synopsis

At a press conference in Delhi, Lieutenant General Anil Puri, who led the conception and structuring of Agnipath Yojana and is now the military frontman and deputy secretary in the Department of Military Affairs (DMA), said, "The Agnipath scheme will not be rolled back. Why should it be rolled back?"

Conveying the impression of a strong government, Puri said the MoD concessions made in the Agnipath program were not forced by protests or arson but were already underway.

Lieutenant General C Bansi Ponnappa, Adjutant General of the Army and top manpower planner said Army will start recruitment in the first half of August, and the first Agniveers will arrive in the first week of December, and then the second lot in February.

In addition, the government hastily announced a 10% quota for retired Agniveers from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). This includes the Central Reserve Police Forces, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, and Indian Tibetan Border Police. Seema Suraksha Bal and Assam Rifles are the last ones under the jurisdiction of the MoD.
