News Synopsis

Microsoft has announced the deprecation of the 27-year-old Internet Explorer as its oldest browser will be completely phased out from June 15th. Internet Explorer was introduced in 1995 as an add-on package for Windows 95. Later, Microsoft began offering the app for free as part of the package.

Almost 30 years ago, browsers reached a peak usage of 95% in 2003. However, IE couldn't maintain its position and the user base began to shrink significantly as other competitors launched new browsers with better user interfaces, faster internet speeds, and smoother performance. "The future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 lies in Microsoft Edge," Sean Lyndersay, program manager for Microsoft Edge, told Mashable.

"In addition to providing a faster, more secure, and more modern browsing experience than Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge also addresses the key issue of compatibility with older, legacy websites and applications," Lyndersay said. The Microsoft Edge program manager said that the internet explorer mode is incorporated into Microsoft Edge, which allows users to view older internet explorer-based websites and applications directly from Microsoft Edge.
